The people of the five First Nations communities of Poplar River, Little Grand Rapids, Pauingassi, Pikangikum and Bloodvein River understand the importance of where they live. To them, this land is not wilderness. It is home.
They are deeply committed to respecting where they live, protecting and preserving its geography and wildlife while honouring their centuries-old Anishinabe values. The people have co-existed here for thousands of years with the land. Their history is found on ancient rock paintings, historic trails and shared by the stories passed on by its people.
"We are the land and the land is us.” This statement upholds a strong belief that the people and their land are inseparable.
The people of The Land that Gives Life are determined to work to safeguard this harmony with their territory, for the benefit of present and future generations.
